Hi, This is the first time I am coming in this section. I have a new site and I feels that it will take time for it to get on google(due to sandbox) so why not target MSN for traffic but I have no idea that what should I do to improve my rankings ? should I follow the usual techniques of link building(key for google) or do MSN also put some weight to the traffic of the site(which I don't have any)? What are the DO's and DON'Ts for getting top on MSN ? Thanks
I'm a learner, but recently managed to get to #6 for a fairly competitive keyword. Happy to share what I know. PM me & we can talk Regards Brian
Msn is the easiest of all the search engines to get onto. First make sure to submit your url to MSN submit: http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx Next you want to begin linking to other sites, I suggestion visiting google and typing in the search term you are trying to target and with "add link" or "url submit" so it would be something like "search term + add link" and vice versa. Try to trade links consistently with say 10 sites a day using this method. Do it every day for a month and by the end you will have exchanged with 300 sites. Always remember quality over quantity, don't worry about the number of link exchanges you make instead focus on the quality of the exchange also download the google pagerank bar and check the sites pagerank before exchanging links you don't want to exchange links with a site that has PR 0 and PR 1 isn't very appealing either. Aim for sites with PR ranks of 2 and above. Some sites might turn you down because your sites PR may be below their liking however don't get discouraged. Also make sure to place your targeted search term at the beginning of you page title as search engines love this. I hope this helps. Remember under no circumstan use linking software even if it doesn't place a script on your site you still should not use it. Find your own link partners. Avoid link farm software and any kind of linking software like the plaque or else you will be freaking out within a month and half after MSN indexed you and then begins De-indexing you. Also it will definetly extend the time period you spend in the google sandbox or even get you straight out banned by google.
MSN is definitely the easiest to accomplish high rankings in. Links, links, and more links. Onpage SEO is also an important factor, moreso than Google by far. Rarely have I seen a page accomplish top ranking in MSN without at least a couple instances of the keyword on that site.
A few things MSN loves.. Links with keywords in anchor text. Thats both internal and external links. Good onpage SEO like keywords in title tag, meta description, H tags and throughout the content. Keywords can also be placed in the alt attribute of images.
Yep, MSN is by far the easiest search engine to get into and rank highly right now. Just by doing some good On-page SEO, you can rank fairly well. Remember to write a quality title using your main keywords. Same with your meta keywords and descriptions. Also place H1 tags on your page and write a heading that makes sense but also contains your main keyword. (use css if you want to change the look of it so it looks nicer) Write some quality content following basic SEO writing skills, mentioning your keywords early, then every few paragraphs, and near the end. Obviously not going over board. Then start building some quality back-links to your site and you will quickly start ranking well in MSN. Brad
Brad also runs a great service for building recip links over at: www.linkmetro.com MSN definitely likes the links and they'll build up fairly fast for you to there.
Eric, you think Yahoo is harder then Google to rank in? I would definately agree that Yahoo is second hardest, but would put Google in there as the Ultimate. Not only in ranking well, but maintaining those rankings for a long period of time requires constant attention and updating of your site. Otherwise it will slowly slip over time. Brad
I've spent a while playing around with my index page and MSN is actually VERY sensitive vis-a-vis keyword text. H1 Tags are undoubtedly important, but a good description which repeats the main keywords from the title is also beneficial. I have also found that bolding the first instance of your main keyword on the page helps. Using the above, I've managed to get two #1 positions for highly competitive keywords, and several other first-page positions:
a good domain name can get a good ranking in msn real quick. yeah..msn works on links links and links...blar
