When I encountered the same issue I started solving it by investigating what could cause slow upload time.
Used GT metric since it is quite advanced in the field (I may miss some other great tools).

In my case, it was three main reasons for slow uploading time*
    • Plugins
    • Hosting did not suit my site needs
    • Pictures weren't scaled properly
*reasons may vary greatly from project to project.

Agree, probably you use all your data and you need better service, so improving hosting could help.

Check out Google PSI. It will show you what's slowing your site down. There's actually a bunch of tutorials online of how could you make your WordPress site faster, but to narrow them down for you make sure you don't have millions of plugins and don't put millions of images since it's going to take forever to load. Make sure that your theme is optimised for speed, and talking about optimising do not forget that you should do that to your images before putting them on your site as well, it's going to make them eat less space of your server. Other than that things such as hosting provider matters, because your site might be very slow because your hosting provider is not performing well?

First of all, you should input your site into https://gtmetrix.com/ and https://tools.pingdom.com/. These will show you where the bottlenecks to loading your site are. In addition to that, here are general ways to improve loading speed in WordPress:
    1. Use quality hosting, preferably specialized in WordPress
    2. Run your site on HTTPS/HTTP2
    3. Use the latest version of PHP on your server
    4. Update WordPress core and its components regularly
    5. Only use themes and plugins from reputable sources
    6. Do regular database maintenance
    7. Decrease server requests on your pages
    8. Optimize your images so they load fast
    9. Enable gzip compression
    10. Use a caching plugin
    11. Considering using a Content Deliver Network (CDN)
The above should cover most bases. From here, you can test singular sites and see if they have any assets that keep them from loading fast. Hope this helps!

Go to URL: developers .google .com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ ( PageSpeed Insight). Put your blog's URL in the box and you will get recommendation. Google even provides you optimized codes and images. You can download it and replace the existing files on the server. If you are not a developer, you can ask your developer to do it. You can use GTmatrix instead of pagespeed insight.
Now a day, people use smart phone to access websites, so if you can implement AMP ( accelerated Mobile pages), It will do miracles for you. There are plugins for implementing AMP on wordpress. You can use: AMP for WP – Accelerated Mobile Pages ( wordpress .org/plugins/accelerated-mobile-pages/.) they have 100,000+ downloads.

Get a good hosting, optimize the codes and images, implement CDN, implement AMP and also if possible caching and your website will run like reindeer. be super fast.

I use Gtmetrix as well as google page speed to get a good idea of what needs improving on any page, not just blog posts.

I've found that google sometimes scores certain 'issues' higher than the effect they have on the site, for example changing image formats to jpg2000.

All good comments. I will add:

Hosting - make sure it's a great fast Cloud Server
Theme - Is Theme Fast? Does the Theme have Theme Support?
Make sure plugins are not slowing down the website speed - use another if you suspect this
Use SVG images wherever you can
Learn how to fix all the issues in GTMetrix
Set your WordPress Max memory limit in wp-config to the highest your host will let you.
