I own a web directory. Most of my traffic comes from India & Pakistan which is not useful for me. So please inform me the techniques to increase the US and UK traffic.

Submit to other directories that are not just on .co.uk domains for example but also hosted on servers either in the UK or US.

Where is your directory hosted? Does it have content and sites that would appeal more to UK aand US visitors? Have you accepted a lot of asian owned sites in your directory so far?

Take part in UK/US forums, its a case of doing the obvious and seeking visitors by looking for those specific ones.

At DP for example there are less US and european and more asian webmasters using the forum.

Are you british or american? Why do you need visitors from those countries if you dont mind me asking?

That probably means you own a free directory in which case there is little help for you.

Would need to see your site to comment further.

Thank you for your valuable information Pipes. That is good question, My directory offer both free and paid listings. If my visitors came from UK & US I will get more paid listings instead of thousands of free listings. Approving the free listings will be tough any directory possessor which is of little benefit.

Hi Swedal, thank you for your comments. You have a got a good directory(Authority Directory). As far as I know it is not good for the directory to get annual fee especially for a new one. I guess it will be better if you give lifetime listing.

You will need to make sure that your directory is in order, for the directory to appeal to UK and US submitters willing to pay.

This is why its important to know who you want to target and what you want them to do, before even starting a site.

Something that ive learned myself after making mistakes, and began to understand where i had gone wrong in some situations.

Naturally if your directory is already holding a lot of submissions from asian countries and your directory is hosted in india for example, and you might have sold sitewides? You need to look at your directory as a UK or US visitor to imagine how you might make changes in order to appeal to them.

That is the core of your problem. Answer this question. If you had the opportunity to go to a car lot and pay full price to drive a BMW away or the opportunity to drive a Ford away for free which would you take????

Give them the opportunity for a freebie and that is what you will get and explains where your traffic is originating.

If you want quality traffic mainly originating from the UK and US then remove the free option and work on gaining traffic the hard way. With a quality site that offers them a reason to visit and list with you.

Are you afraid of posting your site? Just asking as you still have not done so.

A very good point! At some point I had begun to believe that it's the "looks" of a directory that kinda shapes the purchase decision...but later I realized that most paid submitters do some serious research on the site (thru SEs) before taking the wallet out.
