you shoul take care about Internal Factors (Keywords and Keyword Phrases, Text Formatting (Search engines pay special attention to content that is highlighted by special formatting - h1-h4, <strong> tags), Website Structure and External Ranking Factors (as already katelinfct wrote - social bookmarking, directory submission, blog updation and commenting)
