The hardest part of learning about SEO is learning who knows what they are talking about and who does not. Problem is most of the people who 'claim' to know SEO have no clue what they are talking about. They know just enough to 'sound' like they do sometimes and... well... be dangerous.

If you want to increase your PR, get inbound links. But PR is totally overrated. People focus on it too much.

For everyone on this thread who thinks a URLs Page Rank is based on quality content, I challenge you to create a secret single page site with your absolute BEST content on it. Submit a sitemap to Google with your one URL in it, have Google index it, and then wait... 3 months... 6 months... 2 years. Do not link to your one page site from any other site. Do not tell anyone on the web that your site exists. The goal is for your site to have ZERO inbound links. Then come back here in 2 years and tell us all what your PR is. I can tell you right now it will be zero if it even remains indexed at all.

Page Rank is a measure of the quantity of inbound links and quality of inbound links (not to be confused with quality of content). By 'quality' of inbound links I mean the PR of the page that is linking to you and the number of outbound links on that page. It has nothing to do with the content on your page nor does it have anything to do with the content on the pages that link to you. Those ARE part of the algorithm that ranks your page for a particular keyword. They are NOT part of the algorithm that calculates a URL's PR.

If you don't understand Page Rank, what it is... how it's calculated... then I strongly suggest reading Sergey Brin and Larry Page's The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine (http://infolab.stanford.edu/pub/papers/google.pdf) written while at Stanford. It was their blueprint for what was to become Google. Pay special attention to section 2 where they describe this thing they call Page Rank. I would also read their patent on Page Rank at http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...&RS=PN/6285999. Once you've read and absorbed these you'll see that it is a function of inbound links only. While it might have been tweeked over the years to handle things like devalued links and nofollows, the basic concepts described above still hold true.

The quality of the content on your page has nothing to do with it's PR. It has a LOT to do with attracting inbound links (i.e. making other sites WANT to link to your site which will help increase it's PR) and it has a lot to do with how you rank for particular keywords in Google's ranking algorithm. But it is not part of the Page Rank calculation algorithm itself. There is a big difference.

Writing quality content is sound advice for any web site. But don't imply that it is somehow related to how Page Rank is determined. It's only a way to attract natural inbound links. It's those links that raise your PR.

for me, it would be better if we prioritize traffic and ranking then PR would be the least priority...to acquire a high PR, you need to do a lot of Link building...social bookmarking, directory submission etc. and the most important thing is, you must have a quality, good, interesting, unique and informative content...

Ask this question yourself, for what do you need PR

If you ask me except for selling links or domains i dont find any use for page rank

BTW when you start building links for increasing the rankings the PR automatically gets generated and if you are consistent with your link building efforts you can achieve a PR3 easily and continue with the same efforts and you will find yourself a nice ranking and PR4 come the next update
