So right now I'm consistently getting around 400 unique visitors every day and roughly 1100 visitors total. It has been like this for about 2 weeks now, and I am looking for ways to increase these amounts. I thought that my traffic would kind of propel itself in terms of visitors if the amount of uniques kept going up at a constant rate, but I guess not. What are some suggested methods?
It all depends from your niche but I suggest you something that works on every niche: Start a small contest, then a bigger one and it sure that you'll attract many UV. Good Luck ArLinD
I run a media site, something along the lines of familyguynow.com or southparkzone.com, just for a different show. I have covered all the conventional methods such as directory submissions, social bookmarking, etc. and am basically wondering what else I can do. Waiting doesn't seem to be the answer.
Word of mouth will help your site spread. If you face little competition then any sort of advertising should increase your hits exponentially. How long have your UVs stayed constant? Also try writing a press release.
What exactly does a press release entail? Does it cost? Tomorrow it will be exactly 3 weeks that my traffic has stayed around 400 uniques daily as well as 1100 visitors (oddly enough both stay the same, not just one).
If you are interested in targeted traffic, then for sure, the best method is article marketing. I've wrote e-book about this (check links in my signature). The best idea about article marketing is that it doesn't require much investments of time and money.
How would I article market my video site? I mean, there's only so much I can say about it, it mostly just provides a service..
make an advertisements, posting ads and comments that would help you to bring more traffic in your site.
Have a contest on your site and give away cash prizes, that ALWAYS WORKS. No matter what it is. Trivia, games, etc. Free cash works you would increase traffic 10x with just giving away 1000 bucks.
You should work on SEO. Once you manage to rank high for some competitive keywords the visitors will start flowing to your site. Some in the beginning and more as you climb up the SERPs. Then you should try to have these visitors coming back. You have to catch their attention. The design and layout of the site plays a big role here. Most visitors stay at the site for a few seconds. During this time the site has to attract their attention. Work on this. Make a site that will make them have a second or a closer look. Then comes content. give them what they are looking for.
Try to submit your website at different different, Classifieds, forum posting (not only in DP and Major forums.) Every forums that has good traffic towards to it. Blog commenting, social book marking, press release and many more...
I just posted a few press releases on free sites, maybe that will make a small change. And dsakella, I just noticed (by adding ad channels with adsense) that a 10 out of my 12 clicks yesterday came from my home page and at the same time that my other 4 main pages (linking to specific episodes) got only something like 20% of the views. I think you are right, I need to make the site more attractive, but I don't know what to change. Do colors make a large difference? Light colors instead of dark ones?
Well it's a new site, you're doing good so far but don't hurry too much. The important thing is to keep writing fresh content and to build backlinks. That way after a few months your site will start ranking high for quite a few keywords and you will get a lot of organic traffic. Nothing attracts as much visitors as good content. But give it some time.
Just some suggestions. My wife's blog gets about 2,100 uniques/day now. 1. Write a press release and submit it through prweb.com ($80-$200). It'll get you noticed on Google News. 2. Write new content more often. 3. Implement something like a forum or comments to spark conversations (people coming back for more). 4. If you already have comment features in place, always reply to any comments you receive as quickly as possible. 5. An email newsletter and signup field on the site.
This is something you will have to experiment on. Try making some changes, give them some time and see the difference in your visitors behavior (pages viewed, time stayed on your site etc...). Small changes can give you a boost but you can also think of a redesign of your whole template/site in order to make it more attractive. you have to make your visitors surf around. How exactly you can do that depends on the niche, design, content etc... A forum could be a good idea in terms of having your visitors coming back. Be careful though. An empty forum will do more harm than good. So be prepared to start posting and posting and also to have a group of people (friends, partners etc) that will do the same until your forum is able to feed itself.
Submit a press release on some news-worthy component of your site - this is bound to attract attention.
