Hi Souptik, This is an excellent question. The first thing to consider is that quality counts over quantity. Yes, you will want enough followers to get noticed, but you want to make sure those followers make sense with your business offerings. For example, if you sell computer software, you might link with someone who offers tech support, but you would not want to link to someone who blogs about fashion. This type of follower is not relevant to your brand. Another important facet of getting more followers is to engage with people on twitter through comments on relevant content. Additionally, you will want to share content that is useful to your followers and that they will want to talk about. Zach Bulygo at KissMetrics gives several pieces of advice on growing your network of followers. Here is a sample of his discussion of engagement: "The biggest part of engaging is just making sure that you’re talking to people.†-Jen Lopez, discussing social media at SEOmoz Twitter and Facebook should be looked at as a place to engage and communicate with people, not as a place to give non-stop promotion to your brand." Search Engine Journal also has an excellent post on getting twitter followers which you can find here: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/how-to-get-twitter-followers/29960/. They have a strong section on using relevant content to attract followers. I would like to share part of it with you now: "1. Get followers on Twitter with INTERESTING, RELEVANT CONTENT What content is going to be interesting and relevant to the people you want to follow you? Figure that out and provide that content on a regular basis and watch your followers grow. Include a mix of types of content: straight messages/comments on relevant topics, links to your own articles, links to other relevant material, images, surveys, etc. – anything that’s going to make you worthy of the desired follow." Hope this helps, Shawn
You don't need to use tools to get followers. Post helpful interesting tweets, don't spam tweets, and retweet others' tweets often. Those are just a few starting tips for you. You want real followers because they are the ones who are going to be interested in what you are tweeting about.
Tweet your followers with the topic which they like to tweet often. Tweet something useful and interesting.
