I am trying to increase the amount of fans following our fan page in our local area. We are a local service based business and I am trying to greatly increase our base of followers in our local area. What is the best way to do this without spamming. I really want to get people to want to follow us and create some excitement around our service. Open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!
Well without spamming, get as much interest from people who live in the area who you know that are on facebook, call in some favours from your friends, get them to like the page as well as suggesting to all their local friends to like the page, once you have fans all the updates will appear on the newsfeed so try to keep them exciting and original. FB is quite a spammy form of marketing so without being spammy you have less options, you could always post news about your site on other groups pages from your local area, some may consider this spammy though, would depend on your interpretation I guess. Also looking into paid fb advertising might be a route you want to explore, I have heard that conversions can be successful and rates reasonable although I have never used it personally, hope this helps

Yes, CaseyM makes some very good points for local fans. Because you're after local people, then don't bother with buying fans. Believe me I've tried it and it's not worth it!

Find some local influental FB users and network with them... Present the page, ask them what they think and invite them to help you get it going. If it's worth it, you will most surely get this going like that. What's the topic?
