Honestly i find putting 1 ad in the middle of post and 1 at the end. 1 skyscraper on the top left and 1 ad link unit at the top of the article to be good.

Put both side left & right ads 160x600 and you should write 5-10 articles daily and you should publish them on your blog then you have to post links to forums & blog comment, social sites.

you actually need to find out the reason that causing the low CTR. There are some reason such as
    1. Non-targeted traffic - if this is the case, ads placement never help, you need to focusing on generating targeted traffic.
    2. Low quality content / crap content- the visitor will leave your site immediately, you gotta improve your quality content
    3. bad ads placement - this is the best case, you just need to play around with your ads placement and setting

    >> ad link unit at the top of the article to be good.

the keywords for link unit are very targeted, but the ads on second page are not relevant to the keyword at all.

do adsense pay much more for link unit because it requires a "second click" to earn money.

so ad unit or link unit ?
