    You can increase backlinks by submitting your site to a directories, create a related blog and submit it to social bookmarking site, use the link bait or natural way of link method and deep linking.

    I still think it's fine to get more links although they are nofollow... there is still the traffic benefit and many say there is still a SERP benefit in some SE's.

    I know you didn't ask for advice but this may be extremely helpful.... spend a couple of hundred dollars in sponsoring a new wordpress theme in the Link Sales section. You could end up with a lot of backlinks in no time!
