Good info, also I would mention that linking with related sites will go farther than linking with directories.

Submitting a sitemap has no effect on Page Rank.
    Page Rank is about back-links.

I'd be interested to see how they say there's a relationship between Page Rank and sitemaps. Google say Page Rank relies on backlinks only, so I tend to believe them.
    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=49215&query=page+rank&topic=&type=

Sitemaps can be useful for getting google bots to crawl, but that's nothing to do with Page Rank. The one thing a sitemap can't do is tell a bot what your external links are. I suppose if you're one of the few sites that can boost the PR of internal pages through your own internal links it could help - but in that case you are wikipedia, and you don't need any help

Thanks , I found that article very useful! I do have a couple of questions for your since you seem to be very knowledgeable about this stuff.

If you have a site that has a page rank, for example if you buy a domain on a godaddy auction, that has a pr, what happens at that point? Does the PR eventually reset? or does it keep the PR ?

If the PR does reset , how do you avoid that?

    Here's the concept.
PR is apply to a page, hence the name Page Rank. A page get higher PR when other page linked to it, thus PR juice will pour into that page. If that page then link to other page, the PR will flow/spread out to that linked page. Basically, to gain higher PR, you need to gain lots of backlinks without nofollow and control your PR flow in your site. That's all to it.

Like magda said, submitting sitemap will only help google crawl your site better.
SiteMap can't directly influence PR since there is no link coming from submitting it.
