I also needed to improve my writing skills and there was a simple solution: start writing daily. I started my own blog and committed to write something every day. Some months later I realized that using the Firefox spell-checker is a MUST have. It's very easy & fast to fix grammar... and then you simply do less errors.

In addition I read a lot (non-fiction, since non-fiction is darn hard - I read business books which not only helps my English skills, but also helps my biz skills). Whatever I read I concentrate on the content, but also occasionally check out grammar. I check out in which order words are etc.

These 2 things: write daily and read daily have really helped my English skills.

I've never liked reading "Learn English" types of books. Some people have said that there are cool books that can help you learn English, but I think I've read enough of those in the school. Enough to leave the Theory and start Practicing.

(And for the record: I come from Finland, so I'm not a native English speaker)

thanks for the suggestions mates, yes, that what i started working with. I am not going through with "LEARN ENGLISH" kind of books. Trying to get some book of my own intrest like "improving business networking", since last 4 days i am going through with 3-5 articles per day.
i am not in the haabit of writing, but i realize that it's also important, when you need to contact your client.
so trying to get my hand on writing as well. you are not a native english, but your writing style is too good mate. this is a big plus for you. keep it up. best of luck for the same.

yes, this is true, ENGLISH is easy to learn.
    But the main problem is:
Learning it in a natural way... for a native it is quite easy to learn that, becasue he/she has been rasied in that atmospher. This is similar to that when i speak, write, read, and listen HINDI, it's natural to me. But when i talk about ENGLISH, i know this is not not natural to me, i can write, speak, read, and listen good english. But this is not in natural way. So the main point about this post is ENGLISH as natural way....

Get Firefox with the spell checker. It could easily spot some obvious errors in the posts.

One additional hint: write "perfect" English always. Make it habit to use capital letters ("I" instead of "i") everywhere. Start NOW. Make your next post so that you always write "Keep it up" instead of "keep it up".

Pay attention to your emails: don't write "hi there, i would have a proposal...". Instead, write: "Hi there, I would have a proposal...". Practice it everywhere so that you get used to it.

Make it natural. Start thinking in English. Start writing proper English EVERYWHERE. Soon it'll become natural to you.

One thing that I find helpful when learning other languages is to get a penpal who is a native speaker of that language. Forums are a terrible place to practice as the majority of posters on a lot of general forums either aren't native English speakers, or are using a conversational form of English.

If you can find a penpal who understands the difference between your/you're, which/with and there/their, you will have a nice head start when it comes to practicing English.

Reading English books and newspapers can be very helpful. Also, you should listed to English news and also watch English movies/dramas regularly. :)

Improving English is one of my interests. I think it lasts forever...
I learned English by listening to music and the radio. That is enjoyable and I can recommend it.
And Google is an interesting teacher as well as a great dictionary. I always ask Google.

The most important and difficult thing is not to forget what you have learned. Let's keep trying. :)

Watch tv shows, listen to news programs on the radio, speak whenever possible in English, read books in English and write in English. The more you read and write the better your grasp of the language will get. Learning any language other than your native tongue takes time and lots of practicing to learn.
