You need to brighten up a bit.....the clouds as well as the stars....

They look quite dull and are just barely visible...

yeah but the image quality is also bad, or it is my imagination?

How do you do this kind of design starting with nothing? I mean not putting images one next to other and make them look the same.

I've got some clod brushes but they don`t look nice enough..

Try using the various blending options, hue/saturation, and the various photofilters. If you think that anything needs sharpening, use the filter-->sharpen tool.

Yeah, clouds look very dull. Brighten the odd star. The moon seems to take all the attention away.

you need the background to have some darker random black spots, and give half of the stars a 50% opacity

Darker Random Spots, and use the hue/saturation with the numerous photo filters

When I look at it the first thing that comes to my mind is child’s fairytale. Maybe it's that one where the cow jump over the moon? It'd be nice for a kids site.

    what is it ?

Is it Night scene or Day scene....

You are using the orange circle that seems like sun.. the background and start showing night and the cloud have no feather effect..

    Make it natural dude :D

First thought what are you doing to design and thought about that what color and thing you should use to create that...

    Hope this will help

Auto levels will help this alot, aswell as the curves option, also try changing the layer properties, like duplicate the stars/clouds layer and then on the top layer chose overlay. that might help with the saturation issues with the clouds.

Also, Try lowering the opacity of the moon layer and adding a gausian blur, only something small like 1.1 - 1.4
    That'd help alot.

ALSO, try changing the night sky colour AWAY from black, Black is NOT a good night sky colour. Try using a VERY Dark washed Grey or a Deep BLue, ike really deep, intersperced with Small speckles of Black, which you could try running a 50% smudge tool over, Just randomise, it looks far too linear. :)

If you're going to place text directly on top of that image blending edges and not having bright dots all over the place would help visitors to read the text.
