don't remove your backlinks, if you remove your backlinks you will drop in position, try to build more relevant backlinks, and you will jump to the first page

Yes, HXHMan is right. Forget about the past built backlinks and try to build more but relevant backlinks in a slow and regular pace so that it appears more natural to SEs.

Never remove your backlinks, instead try to build better ones.

HXHMan were right.. I never think to remove them..
Maybe you can start a tier1 for your sites..

Get backlinks from high authority sites such as web 2.0 or wiki..

And you should edit your contents in case they are not fully optimised..

Interesting comment about "never removing backlinks"!
If any of your backlinks were from
It was a good idea to remove them

Try to build more back links by article submission, you will again gain onto the position you were previously. Removing spammy back links may be good choice but who knows it is going to effect you in the right manner or wrong.

With the risk of pointing out the obvious, maybe your direct competitors improved their pages on that specific keyword recently causing the drop. get some rankings side by side over the same period of time to check some trends. the go about to find out what they did specifically and improve.

Also, don't remove the back-links, you'll drop even more. If they were paid links like @briguy says it's best to remove them, otherwise, keep them there!

Make sure your backlink profile does not look spammy. For the spammy links, I suggest removing them.

Otherwise, build high powered quality and relevant links to your website. Make sure anchor text is diversified. And make sure your on page SEO is good to go.

Don't remove back links of your site. Back links always helps you to get visitor. You have to create free blog into other CMS site , domain name should be goes with your keyword. Make a simple post into the free blogs and make external link of your site. Create back link now. Your aim is to increase visitor now. If you can increase visitor you can rank your site easily.

actually it happen when your site or page fails to cover ranking factors. I faced same problem 10 days ago, i though there is no ads on my site. so i bought some silly traffic from clixsense. I set visiting time .15 sec , i thought as much people will visit my site , it will rank within a day :p , but after a day i found my site on 15th page :( the reason was actually bounce rate. So try to find out what was the actual reason behind going back of your keyword. or talk with a good seo person.

    Thanks
