How to improve customer's experience in the blue-collar world (Plumbing)

In the blue-collar world, word of mouth is still king. The online space is monopolised by big branded companies that have been around for decades on decades. So you can see how difficult it is for the small blue-collared man to make his presence known digitally. One strategy I have found that has helped many is making DIY content for the intended customers. Despite the fact that it could take it away the need for the service being promoted, it did help build a rapport with new and existing customers.

For instance, in the Plumbing Industry, one can market their services by writing a blog on how to fix a leaky pipe from home, or how to apply some DIY boiler repairs to save money and time for customers. A lot of the times this leads to customers needing help to finish what they started, or what they couldn't fix themselves. This builds trust as it gives the sense that the help is genuine, they were given tips of the trade for free. Not purely for the purpose of profit.

To further boost customer satisfaction, research what the competition is NOT doing. What little extra factor can you add to stand out. This could be for example, emphasising the use of game-changing technology. "New leak detection technology for pipes for a quick, cost-efficient, and no mess leaving fix".

You can try out how things are going with the ideas you have and measure. Ensure that your website is mobile-friendly. In addition to blogging, you can create videos on YouTube.
    1. The video content should be relevant (of interest to your audience)
    2. You can showcase your skills and experience
    3. Always include a call to action
    4. Consider the location of your audience
    5. Search for keywords on Google (Keyword Planner)

In the blue-collar industry, word of mouth is crucial. With the online space dominated by established companies, small businesses can struggle for visibility. One effective strategy is creating DIY content for your audience, like blog posts on fixing a leaky pipe or DIY boiler repairs. This builds trust by showing a genuine willingness to help.

Additionally, enhance customer satisfaction by identifying what your competition lacks. Highlight unique offerings, such as advanced leak detection technology, to provide quicker, cost-effective solutions with minimal disruption. This approach can significantly boost your presence and reputation.

The plumbing blog idea is brilliant. Teaching customers how to fix simple issues doesn’t just help them—it positions you as the go-to expert when things get more complicated. It’s like saying, “Hey, I’m here to help, not just take your money,” which is a huge trust-builder.

It reminds me of a small local electrician I know who started posting short videos on how to safely replace a light fixture. While it may have seemed counterintuitive to give away his “secrets,” it actually led to more calls from people who appreciated his transparency and expertise.

Standing out by highlighting what others aren’t doing is another smart move. For example, adding a personal touch like follow-up calls after a service to ensure everything is working fine can make a lasting impression. People value businesses that genuinely care, and in blue-collar industries, trust is everything
