How to Hold a Twitter Conetst? And is it worth it?

I am planning on holding a Twitter contest for my newly created account for my online business. The purpose of getting more followers is obviously to drive sales, and I want to get a jump start by holding a contest. My plan is to get 10k followers in about a month.

    500 followers - $25 Amazon Gift Card
    2k followers - Blu-Ray player
    5k followers - iPod Touch 8GB
    10k followers - Motorola XOOM 16GB Tablet

I have never done a contest before and would like to know if anyone had any tips or suggestions for me? Also, in your opinion do you think it is worth it to hold a contest like this to get followers/customers or should I revert to different types of marketing?

Let me know thanks..follow me and I'll follow back at @techtwurl.

I dont know what your contest is all about?

U said $25 amazon gift card. What does that mean?

Does it mean that your want to give it to 500 hundred followers or the person who brings it?

    2) How you gonna do it?

Sorry I should have been more specific. To enter the contest you have to retweet a certain message and follow the account. At 500 one person will be chosen at random to win the prize, same with all the other prizes.

As to whether it is worth it, it depends on who your followers are and whether they care about your business or whether they just followed and re-tweeted to get a freebie. There's nothing to stop them unfollowing after the comp is over. If you can afford the prizes then it could be worth a go but maybe start with the 500 followers comp first and see how that goes and see what type of follower you are attracting.

Ratman2050 that idea is not bad but you can do it when you have audience...let say 1000,5000 followers and then you can make it on that way..
