I am assuming that the below formula is what you are using mickmel? Is "the PageRank of pages linking to it" actually the sum of the Pageranks? For example 2 PR5 backlinks = 10? That still doesn't seem very accurate though because it is generally understood that for every PR level you go the link juice it sends gets 5 to 6 times stronger. That doesn't seem to be capitalized in this formula... or is it?
Yes, that's the one. Yes PageRank yes, Toolbar PageRank no. That is how it works for REAL PageRank (which goes from 0 to infinity), which is the numbers that Google really uses. Some pages (google.com, apple.com) likely have real PR in the millions. The toolbar simply breaks that number down into a 0-10 scale, with (as you said) a jump of roughly 6x for each level. As an example, with completely made-up numbers, it might work like this: PR is 0-50 = PR1 PR is 51-300 = PR2 PR is 301-1800 = PR3 PR is 1801-10,800 = PR4 PR is 10,801-64,800 = PR5 PR is 64,801-388,800 = PR6 PR is 388,801-2,332,800 = PR7 PR is 2,232,801-13,996,800 = PR8 PR is 13,996,801-111,974,400 = PR9 PR is 111,974,401+ = PR10 While the actual numbers are likely very inaccurate, the rate of increase (6x) is probably pretty close to accurate. If you could figure out the real numbers required to reach a PR1, you could make a pretty good stab at the rest of them. Really, though, this is all pretty silly. Knowing what you need won't help you get it. Just go build links!
Yep, after reading the site in more depth it seemed pretty accurate. I like the mathmatical equation. In fact, I liked it so much I added to an excel sheet and intend on using it when I go about finding places to advertise / place text links.
