Hi, I am in web design and development business for 6-7 months. I met both side of coin good and bad. rather I should say best and worst. I am having a small team and faced problem of attracting real talent in industry continuously. Sometimes I manage to hire few great guys but they leave in very short time to join MNCs. I come under SMB (small-medium business). Also, when we hire freshers and them grill them to make them working. But when time come to get the return out of investment on these freshers they also switch. Is show off and high salary is the solutions? Which tends to "high salary" --> "skilled and talent worker" --> "Quality work" --> "high charges from clients" flow or chain. How important show off is to attract good workers? Any idea to solve the problem?
I have dealt with the same problem you are experiencing, and I have spent a lot of time thinking about it. I'am assuming that MNCs stand for Multinational Corporations, correct? To compete with them, there are a number of things you will need to do: 1. Offer incentives to your workers that the corporations cannot offer. Offer them flexible payments, bonuses, or other incentives that would make them want to stay with you. You have to build up their loyalty. Since the Big corps can spend more than you, you have to find a way to leverage yourself. Study the corporations and look for weaknesses. They are not all powerful. Find their weaknesses and capitalize them. 2. Are you hiring people that have college degrees? If you are, my advice to you is to stop. People with college degrees demand high salaries, salaries that you can't pay as a small business person. Look for people who are skilled, but who do not have a great deal of education. There are a lot of talented people out there who are self taught, and you will want to look for them. In other words find people who are talented, but do not have the education to get hired by large corporations. Most big companies won't hire you unless you have a certain degree or education, but there are a lot of people in the world who do have skill, but they can't get hired because they don't have a piece of paper that says it. These are the people you must seek out and hire. 3. Make your workers depend on you. The best way to do this is to keep them in the dark. Never reveal too much about your business model. Tell them only what they need to know to accomplish the task. You are the middleman, and you can't allow them to come into contact with your clients. 4. Find people with skill who are willing to work for less. However, you must give them a financial incentive. Look for regions in the world for the costs of living are the same or less than India. Pay a reasonable amount, but don' give too much.
Recruitment is ongoing continuous process and we have to live with it. We have to strike a balance with experienced and freshers. This is not a problem with people like us only but with all the Companies ( irrespective of their size ).I prefer to take people having less communication skills but high on aptitude. I also prefer taking people through reference. Grooming people who come through reference has yielded good results.
OKay. I have thought about it, but finally concluded that those have high education and relevant degree can understand the things at deeper level. I my self MCA plus MBA have confidence of doing any kind of job whether it is programming, designing, seo, offline marketing, online marketing or what ever. (It may be because of my thinking that I can do). But I think degree makes very basis foundation and give strength to thoughts. Your idea is NOT BAD. I'll sure give it a try. Ummm... I think I'll be happy after following your idea. Thank you mate. Less Communication skills and high on aptitude is for freshers I think. For experienced, need high aptitude and real hand on experiencing profile work. Reference, yeah I think I must agree on this. I'll sure try out this. Thank you mate.
