How to go about looking for a niche

How should I go about deciding which niche is better at this moment in time, given that it is highly likely that based on the keyword tools there are n number of people who are already working on the untapped ones!

Its a bit cynical but hey I wish there was a tool that would somehow take into account the domain registration activity vis a vis keyword search activity.

Please share your thoughts on this :)

    Think you got it backwards.
Find your niche first, then use the keyword tool. :)
You don't need a tool to find a niche. Its best to start off with something you are really interested in. Learn how to do your research, marketing etc. Then once you have a good handle on that, you can use your experience to market anything you want.

I have to agree with zeek, if you choose something you already have some knowledge about, or are at least interested in you are more likely to succeed than if you just pick a niche based upon what you think will sell. When you have some enthusiasm or ardore about what you are selling, you have a far greater chance of actually selling your product since your enthusiasm will show.

It is best to find an industry/market which you know very well then delve deeper in to finding a sub catergory of this market which might still be untapped or have little to no competition.

You can do this using keyword research but its best to start from somewhere you have expertice in.

You can read my free All in one keyword research eBook for help on learning how to do the right keyword research.

Focus on niches you know something about. My first website business was based on what I did in real life and yes, there were many people already doing it online. But I became the best and now 3 of us dominate the niche and even cross promote and sell each others services.

It's best to have a niche that you truly have an interest in, because people can tell if you are faking it for easy money...and easy money is a myth anyway.

Mahendra, wouldnt that qualify as a T&C violation for adsense ?

Thanks Pixel Ink and Willyboy 104. I am now convinced that picking a niche closer to one's expertise is a good choice.

I also say find something you like and go from there. If you think about everything you like and take nothing for granted, you will find some.

To see so many responses recommending going for a niche you know is so much different than the advise offered by the "gurus" who have a method to sell. Knowing that this site is used by folks who are actually doing this stuff is refreshing.

    Thanks!

Just remember, you can go into any niche, no matter how much competition there is and still come out successful.

Find an interesting subject you would like to market and start promoting it! =)
