Go to Ezinearticles.com and check out their training, forum, and expert authors. They have a paid survey category that you can look at some articles and check the resource box to see how people are driving traffic using articles.

I have found that traffic coming from article marketing converts, and converts very well for your product or service. It is a powerful source of generating traffic and generating back links to your website. It generates traffic to your website through two primary methods. One method is that of search engine optimization that is created by the back links that are created by your article marketing.

The second method of article marketing that is quite powerful is that of creating direct traffic. To create direct traffic to your website using article marketing, you generally want to submit your articles to the top five or so article directories, as ranked by traffic volume. (Ezinearticles.com is one of them)

Instead of doing that, why not fill out some surveys and make some money. I mean that is what you are telling people to do right? And it must be profitable otherwise you wouldn't be pitching it right?

write short articles from between 250 words and 500 words. Any longer will not keep the reader interested. Do some keyword research to find the keywords that you want to target and ensure that those keywords appear definitely in the first paragraph and then throughout the article. Also learn about header tagsand use them throughout the articleif you are posting them on your website. You won't be able to put header tags in your e-zine article submissions. However if your keywords are in there you will find that your articles will probably rank in Google. As you stated include a link back to your site in the author resource box.

Spend some time creating a half decent article. Submit unique versions of it to 'the usual suspects'. Rinse and repeat.

My recommendation is to focus solely on search engine optimization? Why? Think of it as one central resource which is highly targetted to your particular niche. People will only be searching for your keywords if they're keenly interested in them. They're not "lookey loo's".

Article marketing can be good to drive traffic but I prefer to use it for the benefits it brings me in backlinks. These payoff more in the longer term has opposed to a short-term boost of traffic.
