Hey everybody, I'm finally trying to make the leap from Web developer to entrepreneur with a new site I've developed. The site, Point Relevance (http://www.pointrelevance.com) is basically a social review site where members post and get paid for opinions they post on products, services, and places. It's pretty much a combination of Yelp! and Epinions. My plan is to pay $1 US per opinion posted and split 40% of the revenue the site generates with members. My question is what do you think is the best way for me to go about acquiring new members willing to post opinions? My attempt with Adwords focusing on "review" related keywords has been dull. I've since paused my campaign. While slow, my experience with Bell VMP (a Canadian focused CPC ad network) has been better with a few new members signing on. While I can code enough to build pretty much whatever I need to, I have 0 experience when it comes to online marketing tactics as a site owner. I would really appreciate any advice any of you might have. Skylark
review is a very expensive key word if you want to buy. I think people want to express how they feel about a product, service, or place. And those people who are able to write quality review won't get excited about 1 dollar (at least I can not find one). How about something other than money. Maybe a honour, a certified review writer. People will get excited if lots of people think they are an expert.
I see what you mean. My thinking behind the $1 payment was that there are a ton of sites out there that users submit info to and don't receive anything at all. I've come across some reviewers at sites who've contributed 1000 plus reviews. Now a reviewer like like could have earned $1000 bucks on top of his share of 40% of the site revenue. I also see what you mean about the keyword review, I'll need to come from a different angle when selecting keywords. Thanks again!
You might consider doing a contest of some type. $1 may not seem like much to a reviewer, but a chance to win and iPod shuffle, or some other item might be a lot more attractive.
Do some Adwords. Do a press release and send to www.prweb.com and others. Do some Yahoo! Marketing ( http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com ). Go to specific forums for your products and request people to write reviews. There are a few right off the top of my head.
Thanks Voasi! I was considering writing and sending a press release to prweb but I wanted to get more members on board beforehand. I guess the sooner the better at the rate I'm going, lol! Thanks for the advice man, I appreciate it!
I hear what you're saying about a contest but my hope is to attract members who are looking to be compensated for their time on a regular basis. I'm thinking of increasing the amount I'll pay per opinion but I'm really hoping they find the monthly 40% site revenue split with members appealing. I'm not looking for experts really, just a regular joe who has something to say about a product, service, or place.
Hey guys, what do you think about the use of a CPA network to acquire members? Because I haven't dealt with one, I'm curious to know what I can expect to pay per registration and whether I need to pay upfront? S
