Hey everyone. I'm wondering, how do you REALLY get your site out there? I see this asked all the time, and I generally see the same set of answers. Build quality backlinks, get unique content, SEO, etc. But what really works? How do you build quality backlinks? Does submitting to directories REALLY work? Is it worth my time? And when doing link exchanges, how many is enough? How many can I do before Google penalizes me for "link farming" or something else? I know it's a lot of questions, but I was just thinking about this and wanted to see what everyone else thought.
use articles, social bookmarking, blogs, squidoo, pinging, etc. these are all tried and true methods of getting traffic. you just have to start and get the ball moving. test, track, refine. then rinse and repeat. once you find what's working, duplicate it.
Steer clear from bogus directory submissions...you get so many of those lame "Get 1000+ directory submissions for only $10 in 24 hrs"...and guess what, you'd probably get less than 15 backlinks recognised by Google!! It makes me laugh when I see hundreds of people going crazy over these, when in fact they have close to no effect...it's a waste of time in my opinion...
You're tired of conventional techniques? Well, I mean, if you want something completely new and innovative: check this out. But if you want to actually get traffic, well... SEO and SMO are pretty much all you need to focus on. Write viral posts and write keyword-rich optimized posts.
If you really want to get out there you need to spend a lot of money on programs like adwords and adbrite (also spend the money so they are managed correctly), you also need to promote on popular sites relating to your offer or with a demographic you are targeting. A linking campaign will also help your website be found through other sites and raise your SERPs. Another thing you want to look at is customer service/management. Getting repeat and referral business can help a lot.
If you follow these rules, your site will become very popular: Find a niche Research what your users want Give them lots and lots of what they want Do it better than any competitors
And get it in front of their face - in other words find out where they are hanging out and put it out there.
What I try to do when I'm trying to promote my websites is to create quality articles that are unique to my websites. I try to stay clear of directories that promise high results in a relatively short time. Most of time they are a waste of your money and time, also most of the backlinks are not worth anything in the eyes of google. So instead of trying to get my article on many directories, I place them on a few highly recognized directories (ezinearticles and article city) rather then placing them on lower quality directories. I also like to spend a lot of time focusing my efforts on social networking to promote my website. I feel that if you have website visitors sharing your content with their friends you will have a higher success rate on getting visitors to your website because I think that the action of having visitors sharing your content with their friends offers sort of a safety barrier for the visitors. When a person recieves a link from a trusted friend they feel more comfortable knowing that the website is not phony. But so far you have the right idea on getting traffic to your website. Good Luck, hneagle1
Apart from quality links, original content & seo there's another important factor and that is time. It takes time before your pages start to climb in serps. Weeks, months.. So in the maintime, when waiting for better serps, continue creating content, build links and optimize pages..
Four fantastic points! However, I feel the best way to do such a thing is to have heart. A passion about the niche you find can really give you the edge. yeah, yeah, mesothemioma may give a GREAT payoff, but is it going to pay off if your page sucks? Try getting mesothemioma and trying again Even a low paying niche can really pay off if you write with passion and properly promote. *shrug* Q
