Well, if you want people to register to your forum, you forum should have something to offer to the users. If you want them just to register but there is nothing special about your forum, why would someone wants to register?
You yourself, as an internet user, when it comes to registration, would you just register? Of course no..
You need to ask yourself, what do I get for becoming this forum's member?
Its a win-win if you have something to offer them, they get something good, you get members and page views ;)

    regards,
    iRU

Offer competitions or something that will make the users want to join. The forums will only start to get more users if its always active. No one joins a forum that nobody has posted in for a while.

Its hard work to get a forum running. Pay some people to post interesting threads to make the forum look busy.

    Hope this helps

I'll agree with the comments above and add that I can't stand the skin (sorry if you have some effort behind it), the orange is glaring and makes the categories hard to read. Beyond that, I have a problem with this type of unfocused forum...what exactly are we users supposed to have in common?
It looks as if the discussion topics center around a common theme of "entertainment"...so consider rebranding as a forum that focuses on that. I've seen topics on "Lost" that go on for twenty pages.
The most important thing about any forum is the other members. Until you have them, you'll have "incentivize" posts...offer freebies for posters, or part with some paypal.
No one but a spammer posts to a dead forum.

    Content.

However, you may wish to change the theme's header image to something that suits your forum a bit more. Also offer alternate skins (I didn't check) as I personally can not stand orange. (GO VOLS!)

Promote your forum! To start, change your sig. Stop begging. Use actual descriptive anchor text instead, as that will show me what I'm clicking on before I click.

Paying members for posting is a win-win situation, another kind of win-win situation is when they register, members will get benefit such as, they may download something cools (mp3,videos,software,etc)
Offering free items for registering is good to get visitors to register ;)

It's a very WEAK win though, as you get what you pay for. In most instances, what you get from paid posting is not all that fantastic, as most are there just to make a few dollars, and the quality of posts for a few dollars is simply not up to par as far as spider food goes. Yes, it will increase the overall thread & post counts, but that's just inflated numbers if the posts they make are not all that worthy of being read.

Recently I've seen a few people using the contact form saying they have NO IDEA how to register. It's just a tiny little text link in the top left. Maybe put a banner up? Who knows...

I've had that problem myself. The solution is to find the template (first_visit_message (search in phrases: viewing messages)) and make a few tweaks to the link there. Bold it, change it's color, and give an actual welcome message.

That will certainly help a bit.

    Make threads on controversial topics.

Especially on subjects that people will argue about.

On my forum, many people just register to tell me how incorrect my opinion is...:D.

True. Giving the registration link in the signature helps a lot.
