What I did is use Adwords, and went around online advertising my website and what it has to offer.

Of course since our business' are different, you should try a different approach.

I would suggest stop focusing on a number you THINK will make you successful and instead focus on adding quality content to the site itself. With quality comes traffic and most completely free.

 

you need to promote your website to local businesses, universities etc to get some exposure. If i were you, i would also go to social media sites such as twitter, facebook etc and start marketing it as well. This will gear your site's visibility up and will bring a lot of traffic inbound. You need to bear in mind that even if you drive the traffic, in order to keep them in and out, your content and website has to be interesting in a sense to drive their attention so if i were you i would worry to fix my site first before i start promoting it
