I see that a lot of you are wondering why don't the pages you stumble in your own website bring you traffic - the answer is rather simple. Because Stumbleupon sees that you have given the "thumbs up" for many pages on the same domain it will assume that you are voting things up because it will benefit you. So - every time you vote something up from the same domain will bring you less visitors than the time before. Through trial and error I have discovered that the maximum number of "thumbs up" you can vote for articles on any domain is 15. Starting from the 16th time of voting "I like it" - you will not gain any additional visitors. There is also a wide belief that getting reviews is better than just getting a thumbs up - As my experiments have shown - there is really no difference. I have articles that have gotten over 1000 visits from stumbleupon without any reviews. At the same time I have articles with more than 20 reviews that hardly get 10-20 visits from stumbleupon a day. When I started with stumbleupon I simply thumbed up my own articles and it worked fine for a while (until I reached the 15 mark). Afterwards I just found people online who were not my friends in stumbleupon and asked them to stumble my stuff. This worked pretty well and even got me to a page called StumbleUpon Buzz. It's kind of like the front page of Digg - it lists the most popular stumbleupon stories of the day. Getting there also brought me a bunch of links on other pages and that means backlinks - so my Google search rankings went up as well. There is definetely a lot to be gained from stumbleupon! Starting from May 2008 one of my main sites has gotten about 20 000 visits from Stumbleupon. Since my total number of visitors has been about 100 000 it is about 20% of the total visits - You have to also keep in mind that thanks to getting into StumblUpon Buzz I rank high on Google (thats where most of my traffic comes from). So I'd say from the 100 000 visitors i've had in the last 6 months probably about 80 000 of them are thanks to stumbleupon! Since this is only my first post here at Digitalpoint forums I don't know if it's OK - but here is a link to an in depth analysis I did about getting traffic from stumbleupon when I first started getting a lot of visitors from them: http://www.financialjesus.com/2008/06/06/analysis-of-getting-traffic-from-stumbleupon It's about how I got over 4000 visits from stumbleupon and how stumbleupon can give you different kinds of traffic and improve the amount of RSS readers you have. If anyone has a stumbleupon account please add me as a friend - my user is romangerman
Hmm...stumbleupon has a major flaw...you dont know which page you're visiting...it can be anything: garbage, virus, phishing... thats why i drop it after 2 stumbles...i just lose interest with all the garbage i see and i dont want to take unnecessary chances
i use stumbleupon and a few days ago one of my web pages became popular and it sent me 1k unique visitors but i have checked this trafic is not good for adsense and i have redirected to another site if you need traffic for other purposes it could be useful
i find the traffic from stumbleupon is not worth, only high number of visitors....but still i m addicted to stumbleupon and trying to know how do i get most out of it.
if uou get popular on SU you can get from 60k to 120k visits. if the page doesn't get popular, you can still get nice amount of visits. I know everyone will tell you that, but yeah content IS KING. Next thing - I think it is important to stumble/discover other sites too (not only your site) becasue you want to make it look natural. Also, connect with other people and agree they discover your site for you etc... In short - make it look natural. And do not spam (SU messages) the same people all the time. make it diverse ...
whats good stumbleupon or any service when you have a cursed site? It would be easier to land on the moon tomorrow with own made spaceship than getting a single stumble for any of my sites...
