I'd imagine the same rules apply to getting page rank in any other listings. Good keywords, good content updated on a regular basis, and good backlinks would certainly be a good way to start.

What do you mean by local hosted sites? I rank #1 for two important keywords and I can't even find my local listing in Google Places...

By promoting your Google Places listing on a blog comment...isn't that spamming? I'm even confused about the social bookmark recommendation...I can't place social bookmark icons on the Google Places listing so would I put them on my website and somehow link them to my external Places listing?
