Hello dear Digital Pointers! I often see these funny little icons in my address bar when I visit websites. Digital Point has one as well, it stands before the address in my browsers address bar (I use firefox). I am working on a website, and I would like to add such an icon as well. Can anybody explain how to do this? Thanks, TimToTango
http://www.favicongenerator.com/ and http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/ are some online tools that will help... Iconforge is a good offline tool.
Basically, create a favicon.ico file (there are online tools that will transform a gif or png or jpg into such a file) and upload it to your root web directory (the directory your homepage typically resides in). I recently ran into a confusing problem that I'll help you avoid: I use firefox, and it allows you to simply RENAME a .png or .gif to favicon.ico, and have it display in the address bar. IE7, however, requires that the favicon.ico be AN ACTUAL .ico file, not simply a renamed .gif or .png (again, you can find many sites that will create these .ico files for you for free). Hope this bit of info spares you the hours it took me to figure out. Paul
Thanks guys! So they are called Favicon's. Thanks for the useful links as well, I will start working on it right away!
