Ridiculously old thread, but I just stumbled onto this whilst looking into something, and there's some very good points made. However the original posters intention may not have been to copy the code, it could have been to establish a way into the website (also the reason I stumbled onto this).

Great if you want to replicate, terrible if you want to discover vulnerabilities. I say this because people code in different ways.

... it has all been said before!

The best way to get at the code, butter up the owner of the site and ask for a copy, or offer to pay some money for it ...

OR since it is a server side script the only way to access the source code pre-processed would be to disable php from apache itself. If you shut down php then the server will not process the code it will simply show the source code when you browse the particular file. So how would you go about this you ask? If you need to ask then you probably won't be able to do this. It is an advanced hacker type project if thats what you would want to call it and you need to know advanced server management and/or programming. As many people have mentioned in this post, if you are going to put that much effort into getting the code - why not save yourself the time/hassle and either a) develop the site yourself or b) pay somebody to do it for you / ask the owner to buy a copy of it.

    Best,

PHP is a server side scripting language, hence cant be seen by client. You only get the HTML view of the codes by clicking on 'view page source'.

Unless you're getting code from your own site wouldn't this be considered hacking? I would think this would be the type of thing web developers would got to great lengths protecting themselves from. Setting up passwords, and using htaccess isn't done for nothing..
