Hi there, I want to know the following two things. Kindly tell me the EXACT reasons and solutions for them. 1. What's are the major causes of supplemental results for a unique website? 2. How to get rid of/avoid the Supplemental results and how much time is required for re-indexing the supplemental pages? I will really appreciate any help in this regard. bushib
If your website truly is unique, then maybe there aren't enough backlinks to the pages that are now being shown as supplemental results. The major causes as far as I know is duplicate content, lack of or no content at all, and noone (including yourself) linking to that particular page that has become a supplemental result. Sorry if it isn't of much help, I'm still new to this.
Upon constructing your website, make sure each of your pages have different titles in <title>, meta description and meta keywords. And make sure you have a unique content for each page. But if you have pages that are already in the supplemental results, best thing to do is edit those pages (by changing the titles, metatags and content), and have other websites link to those specific pages that are stuck in supplemental results. They should be outta there in 1-2 weeks.
Just get deep links. Matt Cutts stated that the simplest thing to get pages from supplemental is to get some quality backlinks.
Well do the following (in the sequence) - Add 1-2 more new content pages or entries on the home page. - Make a sitemap and submit to google - Get 1-2 backlinks on a relevant pr 3-4 site - Add a link to the sitemap on the site - Get at least 5 backlinks with the right anchors to your site. Lemme know if it works out for ya
how long is your site been up? Make sure you have unique pages with also unique titles and descriptions and unique content. Ultimately, get more links.
First, you would need to have unique META tags across your site. Second, try to build deep links to the respective pages.
It comes down to: Great Content = Great Serp Results Crappy content = Supp results Just because content is "unique" doesn't means worth indexing Easy as that
I agree, a page with little content like a few tables with numbers inside is likely to get put in supp.
From the early days, I have some duplicate content on one of my sites, but even a few deeplinks keeps dupe content on my site from being supplemental and ranking at the top of google's first page. Just my experience with dupe content and supplementals

Here are factors that causes supplemental results: 1. Duplicate Content - take someone else's content 2. No Content - create pages with no content or empty pages. 3. Orphaned web pages. Pages that no one links to, including yourself. My advise is that you must have unique contents for your site, put rich content text words, and get many backlinks....
I'm a bit late for this thread but the 2 main things you need to avoid supplemental hell is: 1. Unique description meta tag 2. a robots.txt (yes, this does work when used properly)
