Not sure if this has been asked before.

I have a client who has local business and I was doing some keyword research, lets say niche is financial advisor, he wants to rank top in his area. so if someone searches financial advisor nameofhiscity he should be in top 10. Ok thats sounds great, but that keyword does not have any volume.

So how to go about doing keyword research for this kind of sites.

Also what are factors that affect ranking in top 10 of local results??

You can register their location with google maps. They will then send you a postcard to the address with a verification code that you can enter to verify the business address. This seemed to help the most for a company I did work for
