Mostly, I think relevant keyword Research is very important for ranking factor and another "backlinking" is the main factor to ranking.
So, you should keep in touch on "backlinking". On the other side, On page SEO doing to get you to rank most. unique content, title, is very important for ranking.

Learn SEO basics. There are many parameters of ranking. Ask, learn and practice. Then ask, learn and practice...Content is a king, linkbuilding is important. But you should know far more than that.

Do some keyword research – what are your target market searching for? Use the Google Keyword Tool if you want something free. Start with basic phrases and find out what people in your area are looking for. Remember, in most cases, the more searches a phrase has, the more competition there will be for it – don’t try and climb Everest in the first month; start with some niche phrases that you can get quick wins on and use them. Or you can also hire an expert from SEOclerks, to help you.

Rather than targeting rank 1, might as well target top 3. No point to fight for that #1.

Chasing the #1 rank is an exercise in futility. As soon as you get there, Google will change the algorithm and then you get to chase all over again, FOREVER. What a waste of time.

Better to have good content that Google indexes and people can find. That way your bounce rate will be minimal and your visitor retention high.

To put it bluntly - CONTENT - CONTENT - CONTENT.

One of the best things to do is to read the websmaster guides that search engines offer. If you follow step by step all the points they list your site will be clean and well structured.
Once the site is well organized in compliance with the documentation you should spend some time and learn how to use Analytics and Webmaster Tools properly. There you will find lots of tips that will guide you step by step and allow you to improve your content and website in order to have a better ranking.
Additionally, you need to spend some time thinking about the ten or twenty words or phrases that people are likely to use to find a website similar to yours. Once you have a solid list you can try to plan these keywords (there are plenty of tools that can help you do that) and implement them into your site (page titles, headings, body, URLs, ALT text for pictures, blog posts, anchor texts....meta tags seems to be a thing of the past).
A proper SEO strategy needs to be planned and created before setting up a site in order to be effective, as SEO is no add-on feature. Search engine optimization means creating a great website that is enjoyable for users and understandable for search engines. Clean structure, speed, relevance, content, user experience....these are some of the factors which are included in SEO. Ranking is a whole different story and requires you to implement an intelligent keywords strategy and gain credibility (links, social media presence....)
