I have a new blog that is pet related. I'm wanting to get post from pet related porfessionals like veterinarians, breeders, trainers, and of course the general public who want to talk about their pets and post pictures? My question is how do you get people to post? Anyone have any good ideas?
1. Add some unique content to your blog. 2. If they are articles, submit this content to article sites. Be sure to add links to your blog in your content. 3. Add your blog to blog and RSS directories. 4. Go to pet related blogs that allow you to add your URL. Add your URL and post some good comments. 5. Join pet related forums and add your blog url in your signature. In some posts advise for people to look at your blog if you are allowed to do this. 6. Ask some people to comment about this content on your blog.
If you want other people to post to your blog, you need to give them a reason to do so. Simply being online is not reason enough. You are going to have to do front work to get it going.
You can also sign up with these blogs related sites that will bring in Visitors and maybe help get commentors... did you know blond is one of the few sex determined words? Blonde = Female Blond = Male and blogs are usually written by 1 person, or 3 or 4 people who have a stake in the blog, people aren't just going to freely give away content unfortunately
I would give good incentives. You could contact webmasters are start threads in this forum letting all webmasters know if they make a certain number of posts, you will give them a nice link placement on your site. That should get people interested.
I don't know about the spelling of Blonde, but there is a good reason why a person would give you free content and that is to promote their own site. You can put links back to your site in a blog as long as the blog allows you. And if the blog allows you you can put links back to your site with keywords in the article. That's a win win situation. You get content and they get keyword back links. IMO I would much rather have a link in a related blog where I wrote the article than on some link page surrounded by 40 other links and no content.
My blog has 3 purposes. 1. For pet owners to come and talk about their pets 2. For pet owners to get valuable pet care information 3. To allow pet professionals to submit articles that are valuable to pet owners. The kicker to get them to come to submit the articles is the abilitly to leave link backs to their site. It's not spam to me if it is valuable information for pet owners. I also think that they should get credit for the article. There are many websites that follow the same concept that purpose #3 has, just a couple off hand that I know of are: http://prweb.com/ http://www.businessarticledepot.com/
Spend time making your website worth someone's time and you will be rewarded. You can do all the incentives you want now, but if your website is not established, they mean little. All websites go through this process. You need to create value and activity to get participation. If there's lots of other websites like yours, the job is harder because you are simply another copycat. Work to make your website unique. Dig deeper, take different angles and so forth.
Some other tips beside the things that have been said from me: - Try to change the default WP template to something more "pet-like", for example with some animal pictures, etc. This would get the attention of animal lovers much faster. - Offer some unique things for pet owners, for example a gallery where users can post pictures of their pets and rate/comment on them or a pet name generator and stuff like that...
