I am currently redesigning my site, so please don't make any comments about that. I know it's ugly. I am also adding a lot more content and giving each school it's own page. Can anyone think of any unique ways or tips on how to get returning visitors to my site? I'm getting almost 100 uniques a day with about 4 of them returns. I get 95% of my traffic from google and msn. What can I offer my visitors that will make them want to come back. I could try a forum, but that's hard work and not sure if the topic of the page would bring in a lot of members to a forum. All tips are much appreciated. link http://www.fightsonglyrics.com
I think I would find a way to expand the topics a little. Give yourself something besides just fight songs to build on. Give it more college sports related subjects. Even if it is more to do with music. Make it the place to visit. Right now you are limited to those that might be interested in the lyrics or are just curious. Give them a reason to come back. Expand what you are covering.
Contents are a great idea also. Make sure to post to forums that are heavily visited by college students also.
I don't know much about contest, but on forums they work quiet good. Even recently, I have started to have contest on my website. Still waiting for results.
Hello lithman How to get returning visitors? Just think what you do. You visit here because (mostly I'd guess) it offers great free information. So, add great free information: Here are some ways to do that: Blog - give your opinions, rank songs, criticize songs, etc (notice you are going to do a blog) Newsletter Free downloads of stuff (i.e. lyrics, screensavers, etc) That's a pretty lame list but just remember people are online to be entertained (that's your blog where you shock them with your opinions of the lyrics) and informed (lyrics, newsletter, etc. Hope that helps. thanks for all the help.. I think the blog would be my best bet.. I can easily make fun of stupid song lyrics. By the time college football season rolls around I should have a lot of unique content built up to go along with the lyrics. Also, even a daily poll with voting on different songs might entertain people.
If I were you I would give each school their own page, this may insight people linking to a particular school. It will also give you more indexed pages meaning most likely more visitors.
It's all about content lithman And don't be afraid to stand out with your blog: "I think the song of the Alabama team....well, ....it sucks. I'm not saying that people in Alabama don't have taste in songs (obviously they don't!). All I'm saying is they picked a dud whenever they picked that one!" I'm sure anyone from Alabama would take offense at that and jump on in and comment - you get a reaction, you get people talking and you get visitors. (Probably a bad example - you don't want to be offensive.....just slightly off the wall so that people return. Not so they're turned off.) I'm with MediaHustler. Do a seperate page for each song - that gives you more scope to expand later (and in terms of usability it would be much better. I was clicking on Alabama in the header text of 'A' thinking it would link me through, not realizing theat Alabama was underneath). Cheers bambi
A blog is by far the best way to get repeat visits. I will visit a regularly updated blog probably 3 times per day just to see whats new.
I'm already doing this. It's taking me a pretty long time, but I have simplified the index page, used friendly colors, and am creating a page for each school. Not only will this increase people linking to their school's page, but it will increase ad revenue and clicks. Currently if you Click A, you will see ads for alabama, arizona, or arkansas. But what if you are an Air Force fan? Those ads won't work on you. So I created a test air force page, and sure enough... air force ads showed up. Thanks again for all the tips. you guys make this forum great
I agree, contests are very affective! We run a car website and a month or two out of the year we offer a free bottle of Mequiars car soap and stuff. It's only $4.99 for the bottle, but you would be how many members posts just to try to get that free product. Verry effective and I hope this helps
I agree with the contest idea - people LOVE free stuff! Also, add a favicon to your site near the top! Make it easy for people to bookmark you.
