If you want the most conservative way to get yourself on the front page of digg, write a post for Cracked.com or torrentfreak.com. Nearly everything they publish goes to the front page. Of course if your style or content doesnt fit with those 2 choices, make a list or write about something the digg demographic would find interesting. Just don't expect 1 shot to make it.
I'm trying to get onto the front page too, and it's tough. I've done it once before and I ended up with a story around 665 diggs by the end of a few days, but my closest to get a story that high has only been around 70 diggs. Hopefully I'll hit the FP again and be able to share the stats.
