I created a Twitter app which sends a message to my Twitter account when my garage door has been left open. The app is working fine, I am getting the message in my Twitter online account. I understand I can "follow" a Twitter user on my cell phone and I will get a text message when that person sends a message. How can I "follow" my app or how can I get the message from my Twitter account to my cell phone as a text message? https://www.richlynch.com/2013/07/27/pi_garage_alert_1/ http://www.ning.com/help/?p=4955
The link below is for the instructions I used to create a device to get notifications if my garage door is left open. The instructions include, Email, Tweet or SMS (text message). I have been using Twilio to get the text messages but that option comes with a monthly payment. I think there may be other options (Twitter or something else) that can get a message from this device to SMS, maybe another Twilio type service? Use the https://ifttt.com/ service to pick up the notification and show it as a phone alert However I strongly recommend not using twitter unless you've locked down that account. Do you really want to tell the world when your doors are open? If it can email that is preferable. I use gmail and I have all notifications turned off. Then I have filters that identify key emails coming in and give them a particular tag I can also tag specific conversations wtih the same tag IFTTT looks for new emails with the tag and notifies me
Thank You! That's perfect, I am going to set it up with ifttt and gmail as you described with filters., tags, etc.
