Just GEO Target an adwords campaign. You can make it specific to a region. That is the quickest way with the least amount of headaches and time. You will have to spend some money. The only other way is to exchange links with local businesses, or buy ads on their sites, or the local "Yellow pages" , or online business directory. If you are trying to do it on the cheap, it will take you forever to target local traffic. JMO
There is no point in adding it to stumbleupon - how likely is it that a casual surfer is going to be interested in an equine vet in Canada? For something so specific, adwords is worth looking at - you can geo-target to your specific area. Other than that - look for directories in your geographic area and on rural and horsey topics. And look at Google Local - to tie it in with google maps

Uh no. Quickest way to have them to be removed. Do a Google search for equine websites and or forums and carry the sig link. Be sure to be active and leave reasonable comments that relate to the topic. Also see if you can place banners or text links on such sites. Adwords - Google, Adcenter - Microsoft, Bidveritiser, Clicksor, Widgetbucks are all great starters. Will bring in traffic quicker. Just pay attention to the keywords and do research on the highest paying keywords as well so you dont go broke quickly. Indeed social networking is great. You can open a Myspace page. It also has a blog on it as well. So do updates or ads on that page for specials or what not.
