Make sure your pictures are labeled properly, so if it’s a picture of car makes sure you have the jpeg named “car" or better yet the type of car. That way when someone searches for an image your picture has a good better chance of showing up.
    Hope this helps.:)

Put your keyword in impage file name (../car.gif) and give alt tag as "car" (example). Then Goolge will return the impage for the keyword typed "car".

    Good advise :)

This is all you need but I would recommend to add in some relevant content for better rankings.

as G needs text to find what on your content, same as image needs description so SE's knows what kind of image is that.....

I also want to know this. I am using alt text for the images, but my images are name like: 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg. Will this still get them in and because I am using alt text for them. If it does then what about ranking?

Will have the alt text and also the name in the image files help with the ranking or would it not make much difference.

I wouldn't want to change the file names, but I think I will be able to use .htaccess modrewrite so that the images look as if they are named with their alt text rather than 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc.

Things to consider for Image optimization for GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH

    1. File name "san-diego-used-car.jpg"
    2. Alt tag alt="San Diego Used Car Photo"
    3. Surrounding Text Having a keyword in the text that surrounds the image
    4. Title of the page where this image is on
    5. Inbound links with anchor text (keyword) which point to the image

    Hope this helps!

Does the images have to actually be named like that or could I just use 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. and then us mod rewrite in htaccess so that the files actually look as if they are named using the title like what you have done.
