How to get my name removed from a website?

I found my name in an older forum topic and it can be found, if you search for my name. How do I get my name off the website? Contacting the admin does not help much .

I think, he may be interested if you offer some money for that.

Is it that big a deal? If so, a court order.

Some webhosts are very weak, so you could try having the forum admin pressured that way. Again though, is it such a big deal?

Do you just want it off the first page of search results? If so, then just do a bit of "reputation management" for your name (don't pay for it, just do some research and you'll learn how to do it for free).

There is no gravity on the Internet - What goes up doesn't come down!

However, it is often possible to find a reason to make the offending website remove copy. I look at issues such as copyright, privacy rights, etc to convince sites to remove offending data.

Well, he would need to prove that what is written is about him. Anyone can ask for a take down of any content with a name, for example. Sure you can try to pressure with legal letters, etc, but again it's something anyone can do (pretend to be a lawyer), so there's no guarantee the admin will take it seriously. Proving that you are who you claim and that what is written is about you is a bit harder. It's not like you can walk into their office, provide ID, etc, hence a court order can be a more effective way (but obviously there can be a jurisdiction issue). It's not a guaranteed way, though. You can request the site or even Google (to remove from their search results) or whatever search engine.

@OP, is it just your name, or something is written about you specifically? If it's just your name, are you sure it's even referring to you? Is your name a common one or slightly "unusual"? Did the admin actually respond? If you want it out of the search results then you should just do some reputation management for your name (to promote it). If you do it right, you should be able to get quite a few positive results about yourself on the first page (and the more unusual/unique your name is then the easier it can be).

IANAL and I'm not sure you are either. Looked at your case list (in your biography on your website), but couldn't find you listed as a lawyer for those cases? You're not a member of the Ohio Bar Association? Odd (although I acknowledge it's a voluntary one in this state).

I am sure he is a lawyer. It took 2 minutes to look up his registration at the Supreme Court of Ohio and Ohio Judicial System website.

Although I never before thought to doubt his claim he was an attorney - I looked it up for you. It was always pretty clear to me by his answers on this site that he was. :)

I stand corrected; Andrew Mark Jaffe is a lawyer.
