I own a webmaster forum with about 250 members, but a lot of them are inactive.
Does anyone have some suggestions on how to get the existing members to post more? I am currently holding a monthly contest which I hope will help.

There are three ways to improve activity on a forum:

    1. Content
    2. Content
    3. Content

Keep posting, give people something to replay to.

Causing drama (in a fun way) somehow always works for me. Get your friends to post there too :)

A fun (not something like posting or referring) contest is probably best. Offer a nice prize, like a gift card or a free domain of the winner's choice. Even something like a free premium advertising spot is catchy.

You certainly also need to be constantly adding content and interacting with members.

Try to promote the forum and attain new members as well.
