Hi, After reading so many posts and threads here at DP,i have finally decided to start a website.Before spending my hard earned money ,i would like to know the available ways to get 5000-10000 unique and quality visits a day.Also I know that social sites like digg are one of the ways,but i heard that if u keep on posting stories from ur site,digg will ban ur url.How to get around that? Thanks
Truthfully, there is no way of getting good targeted quality traffic in bulk loads. If you want good steady traffic then you have to work for it or pay for advertising. If it was easy to get traffic then there would not be so many sites on the web that doesn't even get 1,000 unqiues a day. I would say that about out of every 75 - 90 sites only 10 - 25 of them have over 1,000 unqiues a day. That's what I would think anyway and is just my estimations.
A combination of many things seems to help. StumbleUpon works for big jumps in non or less targetted traffic. If you can do something to create a buzz (ie viral content), such as a contest, funny and original stuff, something really unique (like that sheep dating site), etc, then you'd be doing well. Repeat visitors is the tougher part. If you don't have plenty of good stuff to offer or provide a great service, most will never come back or tell their friends.
I've heard contests work really well, but never tried it myself. You could also hire an article writer and submit articles to directories or to related sites in exchange for a link.

Most of my traffic comes from organic searches. Next would be advertising (paid ofcourse). However, my biggest single days came from stumbleupon, but very few went beyond the page they visited. Very flighty visitors.
