This has been a year now I have submitted my website to dmoz but so far they did not include my site anywhere. It was done as per the guidelines of expert but I'm still struggling to get included. I think there is much of luck involves. I know many peoples who randomly selected category and sent their request for approval, they got listed. So it’s all about luck I guess. Still I would like to hear from experts if they have any explanations. My website is a classified site which serves all the countries
Do you have a lot of listings in EVERY classified category? If not, assume it might get rejected. Can you share the URL?
I did not post my site in any classified site. "assume it might get rejected." Don't they send any confirmation regarding this?... Thanks.
I'd love to know the answer to this, too. I've submitted my site twice in the last twelve months and nothing ever seems to happen.
As you can see from the public documents and a very great many threads in this forum (and elsewhere), DMOZ is not a free listing service, and volunteer editors do not rely on suggested sites to build the directory. Your suggestions are welcome (provided you adhere to the suggestion guidelines of course), but they are nothing more than one resource that editors can use if they want to. There is therefore no need for a volunteer to waste time telling you that your suggestion is still awaiting review. You can assume that for yourself.
Mark, I did not see anywhere they charge for listing our site. Also they don't ask for paid listing while submitting a site, how to pay them if there is no option and where to send the money?. Please clarify. Thanks.
Thanks for your reply. I think a lot of the "great many threads" would disappear if DMOZ could manage to acknowledge receipt of suggestions. I've submitted my site twice, and both times I haven't even been confident if I'd done it properly. An automated email acknowledging receipt and advising that it may take some months to review, would help a lot.
After you submit, you get a "thank you for your suggestion" page. What is wrong with that? Did you not read the page in front of you after you submitted?
Yes, and I've heard that everything on the internet is true. In fact, not only will any editor found to be asking for or accepting payment instantly lose their account, but any webmaster offering a bribe risks having ALL his sites permanently banned from the directory. Hardly worth the risk, I would think, but if anyone knows of it happening, all you have to do is provide the details and it will be followed up. By "details", of course I mean actual URLs and/or editor names. Vague and completely unsubstantiated accusations such as those idiotically made over and over again on this forum by gworld and others are nothing more than trolling. But real reports are always followed up and the above actions are taken. Just ask those who have already suffered that fate, if you can persuade them to be honest about why they lost their accounts.
i tried many sites but never get in , don't waster your time. also dont try to bribe there , you can purchase many pr links from other places
As already explained, as long as you see the confirmation screen, you can confirm that your suggestion has been received, so there is no need for anyone to take time confirming it for you. The confirmation screen already tells you it has been received, and the public guidelines and umpteen forum posts already explain that suggestions are not reviewed in any order or within any time frame. Therefore an email is completely unnecessary. Besides, editors' time is far better spent looking for worthwhile sites to add to the directory, and we might spend some of that time looking at the pool of suggestions. I'm sure you would rather we used our time in that way than in sending unnecessary emails.
