I know that I should have as many backlinks as possible to rank my website higher on search engines. The problem is that it is an e-commerce website that doesn't have much quality content. How can I get people to link to my website? Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
Create content that is worth being linked to. Is there any reason you can't have good content just because it's an eCommerce site?
I have amount of good content and people link (I know it through wordpress track-back) to my site but Google does not index it. How do I get indexed?
I've got an e-commerce website and I rank fairly well.. my problem is I don't know what "quality content" I should put up.
Think about your site visitors and the information that they may find useful or interesting then produce some content to meet this need. E.g. You might produce a pages or several pages on recommended ways to use your products - or you may simply provide a page of links to other websites that would potentially be of interest. Or you could present product comparisons with your competitors, or feedback received from previous customers - there's no end to the possible content that you could provide.
There is no one answer to the question of what quality content you should put on your site. It's your site. You can create any kind of experience that you want for your visitors. What would you want to see if you were a visitor there? If you're selling dvds, you could put up movie reviews. If it's vacuum cleaners, maybe a comparison between one model and another. If you're selling wedding dresses, maybe some articles about the best honeymoon locations. There's no reason why an ecommerce site has to be lacking in content or inferior to any other sort of site.
How do you create Quality content on an e-commerce site? Not as easy as many make it sound, quite frankly. First place you need to try to add content is in your descriptions. First of all stay far away from describing your merchandise the way your competitors do, or the way your catalogs do. Remember google sees every site at one time or another and they can easily see the stilted descriptions that wholesalers stick in thier catalogs. While the number of subject you can write about are indeed numerous, they need to be informative and interesting to the reader so spend a few minutes writing down article subjects that might interest the end user. Some are easier than others but every e-commerce site has something to write about. Check some of your competitors and see what they wrote about. Don't plagiarize but perhaps you can find another angle on the subject. The history of your product. How the product has evolved? New developments............. IMO the problem is not finding what quality content to write about, it is really finding the time to write a 500 to 750 word document that is well written, gramatically correct with no misspellings that is written well and worth reading with a beginning, middle and end or the who, what, where , when and why of it. I have 50 plus pages of article titles now but not enough time to write the complete article. Good Luck!
Yeah, that's my problem. The only content I can create for my visitors is the product name and description. Thanks, richromo for your advice. I'm also thinking of writing a blog around the products I sell. That may get links and drive traffic to my store more easily.
Put a blog on your site. Decide on thirty products that you think people would be interested in. List them, and start writing. Get 30 articles about those products reviews, possible uses, why they rule, etc. Post those to your blog on a schedule, one every day. Each day, bookmark the article on delicious, reddit, digg, wherever. You will probably see a huge difference...
With all due respect to the bloggers - I love you guys! Running an e-commerce site and adding decent content is a challenge. I am not whining just stating a fact. Every time a catalog comes out we have to list products/ add images, add related items and do on page seo. Not a biggie but adding additional content is often second to helping customers, shipping, returns, complaints........ So what? Like everyone time is in short supply. Adding a blog is a great idea although I added a blog on its own domain and link back liberally.
