See my Adwords FAQ for details. But basically, QS is a measure of your CTR compared to others using that keyword. With a QS of 3, you are below the average CTR for that keyword. There is also a keyword relevancy portion. If your keywords are judged not relevant, you'll lose 2-3 points so check that. If you're not relevant, you simply are not using the right keywords for that landing page.

So the question is, how to improve your click rate. Create better ads. Use words that attract them and make them want to click to learn more.

This is a very tedious task to do and if you want a high QS that's pretty much the only way to do it. So here goes:

    1. Create adgroups for each group of related keywords. Ex: how to train a cat, how to train fat cat, how to train cat easily. That would be an adgroup. Another one: Train a cat, Train cat fast, Train cat quickly. That's another adgroup. You get the point.

    2. Create 2-4 ads in each adgroup related to the keywords in them. Meaning if you're in the adgroup "How to Train Cat", and here the main keyword is "how to train cat", then each ad should include this keyword. Ex: You have the keywords "how to train cat", "how to train a cat", "how to train a cat fast", etc.. You MUST have the general keyword "how to train cat" in your ad. This way Google sees your ad relevant to your adgroup and what you're trying to promote and thus gives you a higher quality score.

    3. And pretty much you should always start with the keywords Google suggests to you with their keyword tool but only take the ones you think are the most relevant and then expand from there.

    4. Also why I say you should have 2-4 ads in each adgroups is you want to test these ads against each others everyday and keep the one that has the highest CTR meaning the one getting the most clicks with the less impressions and improve slightly on it as well as doing the same with the ones that aren't working well. CTR is a big factor in determing your quality score so take your time when writing your ads and don't rush it too fast.

Just start with these 4 key points and you should get going pretty well.

i also get confused how quality score works and measured, but relevance and CTR are we all agreed to including Google, though they never show us how to do it.

The most important is to create tight focussed adgroups - very relevent text ads within the adgroups and extremely relevent landing pages

1.Spliting keywords into smaller and more targeted adgroups.
2.Create more relevent and very catchy ads(I think image ads are better).
3.The landing page using should be relevent to the key word for example for a keyword "solitaire" the ad should have a landing page with different types of solitaire games.
and I think if we increase the keyword bid the qualty score will increase.

Very good answer. I was frustrated with adwords the first several months that I had started using them. But over time choosing the best keywords and the best ads got mine higher. I think Google has made Adwords better of the last few months too

The tips listed are great. If you really want to go over the top though with a good quality score get a domain this is same as the search word you are advertising for. Can be difficult though to acquire obviously ...
