Google has indexed only a few of my pages in my site. Unfortunately those pages are the least interesting. In fact one of the pages only exists in my server, I don't think there is any link to it from my site. How do I get Google to index my interesting pages as soon as I post them? For instance I added a current complete directory of computer stores in vancouver I also have a major article published for some time now and Google cannot find it even when I searched for it's exact title: Duo Versus Quad: The Ultimate Guide It is very annoying to have my important pages not show up while meaningless pages are indexed. I have a webmaster account with Google and have a sitemap in my site.
I see that you have set up a sitemap.xml file, but the majority of the files listed have a priority of 1.0 or 0.8. Be more selective as they can't all have a high priority. Make sure all of your pages are added to the sitemap and set the pages of less importance with a lower priority More information about sitemaps On a different subject, I would also say that some of your site's adverts seem out of place. I suggest that you get other adverts more in-line with the site's contents and your company's products. The ones you have, make your company look sleazy IMHO. Jon
Hi Jon, I am new to sitemaps so I just run the program and then post the sitemap generated online. I thought that google would index all the pages on the sitemap. I have no idea how the importance numbers are generated at all. Thank you for your input, I will look into the info your linked. As to the ads, I have two very reputable ad providers, Adsense and Adbrite. I run the ads they send me. They are not very good yet but in time they should improve. What bothers me is that my article has been up for weeks now and is not even indexed by google. This is horrible. That is a 1500 word essay that could truly be useful if someone is considering choosing a duo or a quad. And now the directory. This is truly the most up to date and most complete directory for my area. All the other ones I have seen are full of dead links, links to parked pages, links to defunct companies. Google itself has a mass of supposed stores listed for the area, but most of them don't really exist anymore. So this should truly become the most used directory when I add store reviews and description. But how do I even get google to index it in the first place? Out of all my pages google chooses to index my "Thank you" page that is supposed to show up after someone completes a contact us form. So much for their famed algorithm. I have submitted by article page by hand several times to google but they don't index it. I don't know what to say. They seem to have gotten a little too comfortable as a top search engine and are perhaps a little too lazy by now.
They're certainly not lazy, but they need the information from you in the correct format. It may be a silly question, but have submitted your sitemap to Google using the Webmaster Tools? You could also try listing a basic sitemap.txt containing a list of each of the site's pages. Jon
That blog post is a little too basic for my use. It would be interesting if you did some research and found some interesting facts.
