When you search a site in Google, just below the clickable link in the search result you see a 2 lines text about the website. In that 2 lines, Google shows what the site wants them to show. For example, when you search facebook.com.. just below the clickable link of facebook, Google shows this "Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them." When you search my site, the 2 lines text below the clickable link is something that Google randomly picked up from the index page.. and that text doesn't really make any sense. How can I get Google to show what I want?
You have to include Meta tags in your website and in each pages. You should have Title, and Description for each pages. Have a read here in wiki on how to code your meta tags. If your site is based on Wordpress, there is a pluging called "All in on Seo". Try using that one.
Jav_V is right.. Also if you are using Wordpress, there are some themes that has already something like "all-in-one-SEO" plugin.. You just input your Site's Title, description and keywords.. Also, your Title must be <=60 characters and the description tag must be something short and must have the idea about your site.
For mybb forum you can use mod called Dynamic Metas to set defferent meta descritipons. It works for: - forum - thread - other pages
What you are talking about is the description of site. You can edit what you want Google to display for your result in meta description.
<meta name="description" content="WHAT YOU WANT TO SHOW ON SEARCH ENGINES HERE" /> Put this before </head> in your code.
I don't think it is that simple. Depending on the keywords Google will use content from the site over the Meta description. I would also like to know if there is any way to work with this.
Your going to want to fill in the Meta Description Tag. Its also best to have a unique Meta Description Tag for each page as you want the description to always represent the content on the page.
Your meta description is unique to each page. If you rank for certain words for the same page, it will be the same meta description displayed. Rank some words for different inner pages of your site if you want a different meta description to be displayed in the SERPS.
You're META description does give you some control over what Google displays as the description, however Google won't always use the description tag and will sometimes bring in excerpts from other content on your site if it thinks it is more relevant to the search phrase. Whether Google decides to use your META description or not, is pretty much out of your control.
