at 1 point google was crawling close to 200k pages per day from my site, probably after i got a few pr7 links that i dont have anymore but cant really remember if it was at that same time, i need to get back to them crawling that many, do you think getting more high pr links is the way to go?

high PR backlinks does not guarantee faster crawling of your pages by google bots. Daily updated contents and site promotion will help you.
Then click the faster crawl rate in your google webmaster tools options.
Sitemap is necessary for all the pages to be crawled.

Update the crawl rate in Google webmaster tools->tools. You can set it to faster crawling. But that may affect your hosting, if you are not prepared.

Yes, if you get links from high PR pages, the google will crawl your site faster. In order to index more of your site's pages and to get crawled faster, you need to get some good backlinks.

Aside from getting more PR, also look at optimizing the page serve times. Externalize js/css, use caching, optimize sql queries, etc. Do everything you can to serve pages as quick as you can.

i do have it set to faster on webmaster tools, my server can handle it fine as its pretty high end, better be for $250 per month ;)

pittbug, thanks for the suggestion, i always do work on minimizing page load time, and my site does load superfast but now that you mention it and i see google does keep track of how fast your site loads + how much data it loads etc. might be the reason i am getting crawled slower.

I think it would be from a variety of sources. Naturally wouldn't a spider crawl onto your site if there was a link from the page it was on to your site? So if you increase the volume of your presence from a variety of sources online it would only make sense that more spiders would crawl into you as there are more pages pointing to you?

Social media is great; so is posting on a variety of forums. Instead of posting 20 messages a day on digital point why not post 5 messages a day on 4 forums or 4 a day on 5... You'll also expose yourself to more crowds for referral traffic. This is all imo of course.
