How to get free domain names..

i have xampp running on my computer and i am using it to self host my websites.. i was just wondering if its possible to direct any domain name to my IP so that i have a genuine looking web address..

i just dont want to pay any money to domain name registrars like godaddy and all those big guys out there.. is it possible to direct any unregistered domain to my ip..
i will give an example.. suppose xyz.com is an unregistered domain name.. i want people to be directed to my IP address when they type it in their browsers.. is there any way to do this..

 

I've never heard of anything like this. I would imagine however it would be very difficult to do.

 

noo its not possible you can do it for your own computer via modifying your windows host file

 

for this kind of thing you need to purchase the isp itself
