That is my forum. I have been having traffic problems. Any ideas to help? I have over 3000 backlinks, barely any organic traffic.

Try making videos for advertisement, posting on ads about your forum, and encourage members to be more active in your forum.

Use services that are available to you such as Twitter and Facebook. Make some unique tutorials and other content and post them on other social networking sites such as Reddit.com, Digg.com, Stumbleupon, and delicio.us ;)

post some nice content on forum
try buying visits to your forum from paid to click sites
do some kinda referral contest , giving a reward to member with most referrals , this should help a lot

Black root home page doesn't help much. Make a good home page with content and add few more static pages if can. It says 8,000+ members but how many are active ?

One of the suggestions was this:
Launch email list. Trawl the web, build up a massive list of emails of contacts in your niche. Send them a polite email when you are ready to go.

I don't feel to good about this, but it is something I have considered. I can definitely get tons of targeted and interested potential members, but isn't this still spamming?

Auto redirect your main domain to /forum or move your forum to the root of your domain.
    And what "subdivisions" said.

For quality forum traffic you must try following things.

"Buy Paid Sticky Or banner on forums related to your forum"

    Xrumer advertising is good option.

Make some giveaways and freebies for new members.

    Contest regarding referring etc.
