I am starting my own webmaster forum next week,so...What's the best way to get those first members? Thanks alot!!!
Advertise and populate your forum first (this involves creating discussions by yourself, with different usernames) give incentives for posting on it...such as freebies, software trials, etc.
I'd say that you have to provide something of value would be a good start. Why would I spend time on your forum instead of DP, WF or V7N? If you provide great content then I'll come back for more. I'd want to see some really, really good posts with information on SEO tasks etc to come back. It'd also be nice if the forum was do-follow.
I am currently in the same phase of finalizing my forum, www.dealerstories.net. I would recommend starting with posting current events, your stories from your industry(good and bad), technology improvements that support your work, and a miscellaneous section. Other forums are great for getting new ideas.. If you are creating the forum you should have insight in all categories. As a rule do not expect posts from new members unless it is something you have already experienced, therefore be the first top share your stories. Thanks, JRHODES www.startvector.com
