i was doing keyword research today and got a keyword that was searched a huge number of times monthly with a low competition on google adwords keyword tool. i wrote a post with title of the post exactly that keyword. and after that i searched google and found that many popular sites like blogger and wordpress were there at the first page but none of those site had the exact same keyword any where on their site.

so now i want to ask as i have used the exact keyword as title of my post, is it beneficial for me to get a better rank?? ,
secondly , can i make my post get listed on google first place?
third and last question , if yes how can i get on first page when such popular sites are there blogger.com and wordpress.com?

please give your valuable suggestion and please do specify if you have done any such thing before, thanks in advance

you can use this keyword as title with attractive sentence.
then put into description and use in your site with
keyword
.
and also put your keyword into in to your website URL.

In this competition of keywords, it is not easy to get ranked on First page. However we can just try our best. We can use that keyword on title and doing off page of that keyword. After a long run we can win.

How many thousands (millions?) of other websites do you think are competing for the first page for that same keyword?

For any keyword of even moderate competitiveness, there are no easy ways to beat out thousands of other websites for those top ten spots.

Get a few links from the home pages of NBC.com, Harvard.edu, Whitehouse.gov, and others like that, and you'll be first page in a hurry. I'm being facetious, of course, because you can't get those links.

You need to really tel what keyword it is. And when you are concerned about google listing then you need to make sure that just writing a post for it is not going to effect any rankings. You need to put huge efforts on it as just considering it low competition on Adword, is no solution..

On-Page SEO is very important if the Keyword has low competition. Use the Keyword in Title in first sentence of the post and through the post with keyword density 3%. Use it in H1 H2 and H3 Tag, also use it in the last sentence, underline one, bold one and hyperlink it to your home page. Make other posts with related keywords (use the same model) and hyperlink them to your homepage.

In google adwords keyword tool, it doesn't tells you the competition on SEO. Rather, it tells the competition about the bidding for that keyword, that's how I understand it (although I don't advertise on adwords). Also, did you check exact search in google keyword tool? On the first page result, if you see sites with blogspot and wordpress, that really indicates that it isn't hard to rank for that keyword. As you mention, they didn't have that keyword anywhere on their site so it's most likely they are not after for that keyword. Try to install SEO Quake and see what's the sites PR on the 1st page. If you see a bunch of PR n/a or 0, then it indicates low competition. And it's also good to see their backlinks, you can use SEO Spyglass free version to see their backlinks. I think, by just submitting unique articles to web 2.0s properties (10 would be a good start) and bookmark or throw some links to those unique web 2.0s, you could rank for that keyword. Try to do it and monitor your sites' ranking, you can use Seoserp free version and see if your site will move up after 3 weeks.

If your content is more relevant and more popular than it will rank first. It is as simple as that.
